On May 10, 1869 in Promontory, Utah one of the most monumental and historically relevant events in American history occurred; the joining of the Transcontinental Railroad. 150 years later the State of Utah and other key partners began a multi-year journey to throw the biggest party since 1869 to celebrate. Responsible for creative, marketing, and advertising for the event, we worked with everyone involved to center the brand story on those forgotten by history’s teachings. Visually we built the creative upon a visual language dubbed the Quilt of America that celebrated the beauty of what the railroad ultimately connected: the patchwork of landscape of ideas that was America. These pieces could be connected together in any order, alternate color, and turned to create a visual centerpiece that spoke to the State of Utah’s connection and benefits to the completion of the project. We worked to advertise the event, plan events, and work with the state to create and promote 150 events in every county in the State of Utah. After all the work and parties and events, our combined efforts ultimately helped lead to Golden Spike Park gaining National Monument status.
